A long time devotee of the blanc-on-blanc look, Kendall Jenner has stepped up her all-white game of recent months (which feels like a decade in social media scope). While fashion purists would argue there are hard and fast rules if you want to dodge a world of head-to-toe white disaster, the Kardashian/Jenner clan’s most fashion-savvy member would argue the contrary…
8 WAYS KJ’S BROKEN THE ALL-WHITE RULES
RULE #1: If you’re going to flash your SMALLS, make it count Showing the world your luxe lingerie is a thing right now, but the key is to have your pretty bra stand out, ideally in black or a bold colour. (Shanina Shaik and Jenner are queens of the current bralet-on-show trend.) White would normally be far too subtle, but in this case, KJ’s bold boots and big arm-holes do enough of the talking. Kendall’s wearing the One x One Teaspoon Braxton Utility Suit, which retails at $169.

RULE #2: Better to wear the wrong bra than no bra at all What, and miss showing the world your new nipple piercing through your thin-as-paper tee? This is a rare occasion Kendall out-vamps her little sister.

RULE #3: Sailing whites should be crisp. Save cream or beige for the boardroom Either piece of this muddy white set on its own might look meh, but teamed together topped with simple gold accessories and it works beautifully. Here, mixed sheer/solid texture and patterning add extra punch, too.

RULE #4: Volume on either top or bottom, but never both Teaming paper-bag pants – another trend biggie at present – with a cropped tee (a la Gigi Hadid) is a style gimme. Throwing in a bulky knit on top risks falling into marshmallow territory, but Kendall’s cropped cashmere with off-the-shoulder wide V-neck draws attention to her waist rather than swamping it. Extra points for the lacy black Anine Bing bralet on show. (Refer to Rule #1 above. Tick)

RULE #5: distressed denim miCRO-SHORTS ONLY belong at the beach Technically, KJ only half broke this style rule, given she wore this (let’s be frank, almost perfect) white-on-white outfit to upmarket eatery Nobu at Malibu Beach to party away Independence Day. The high collared cut-out lace top balances lifts the cropped (One Teaspoon ‘white beauty bandit’) shorts. Topped off with huge hoops (a big look in off-duty jewellery right now) there’s nothing basic about this luxe boho combo.

RULE #6: treat all-white as a blank canvas Commonsense suggests a completely plain, colourless look is the ideal baseline for a statement accessory, spattering of fine jewellery or bold make-up look. Jenner proved otherwise with this ensemble at the Calvin Klein Collection Autumn/Winter 2016 runway show, made even more appropriate by the fact CK’s aesthetic is all about classic minimalism. Even her nude lip and nails keep her in neutral, unlike her FROW neighbour Abbey Lee Kershaw, who finished her all-white outfit with a heavy eye, black nails, bold necklace and a mild fashion-biz scowl.

RULE #7: TIGHT + WHITE is rarely flattering in the pant stakes Perhaps true of most people when it comes to trousers in general (especially in terms of tight gym wear) but Jenner owns this luxe sweat-pant look by teaming it with a crop and casual accessories. You can’t take any outfit too seriously if it involved a furry handbag.

RULE #8: never mix white with off-white (or cream) Pick your hue and stick with it, lest you risk looking muddy – such is the general consensus with white-on-white dressing. Here, Jenner proves them wrong. While her choice of faux eyewear may be questionable, this combination of fray-hemmed white jumpsuit, cream coat thrown over shoulders and beige Stella McCartney shoes and Celine bag is a lesson in broad palette perfection.
