The world has an obsession with celebrity children, so much so that often by the time they’re teenagers they’ve already followed in their famous parent’s footsteps. Kaia Gerber is her supermodel mum’s mini-me, Uma Thurman’s daughter, Maya Hawke, has already starred in a blockbuster movie, and Victoria and David Beckham’s teenage son Cruz is already releasing music.
But while some kids jump wholeheartedly into the spotlight, others shy away from it. Such as Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise’s daughter, Suri Cruise, who just celebrated her 15th birthday.
Despite her actress mum being photographed on the streets of New York City almost daily—and far more often since she started dating restaurateur Emilio Vitolo Jr.—Cruise manages to mostly fly under-the-radar, so much so that it’s almost impossible to believe she just turned 15.
To celebrate her daughter’s birthday, Holmes posted three black and white photos of Cruise to her Instagram, writing, “Happy 15th Birthday Sweetheart! I love you! I can’t believe you are already 15!”
The collage of cute photos included one of Cruise as a child, another of Holmes cradling a younger Cruise, and a third of the duo embracing with Cruise smiling widely at the camera.
Though she doesn’t speak about her private life often, recently Holmes opened up in a personal essay about the fact that the mother-daughter bonding time she has had with Cruise during the pandemic has been “the most precious gift.”
“Taking time in Washington Square Park with a friend whose little child was taking his first steps brought me back to when my own child began to walk. I felt nostalgic and in awe of the power of time and the continuation of life,” she wrote.
Recently, as well as spending extra time with her teenage daughter, Holmes has been dating Vitolo Jr. who co-owns the popular New York restaurant Emilio’s Ballato.
On Holmes’ 42nd birthday in December, Vitolo Jr. posted a birthday tribute to her, writing on Instagram, “The most amazing ,kindest, beautiful person. Every time I see your face it makes me smile . Happy Birthday !!! I love you !!”
