Demi Moore’s micro chihuahua Pilaf is arguably the breakout starlet of New York’s fashion scene. Learning this first hand is none other than fellow Manhattanite Katie Holmes, who spent much of a casual Monday in the Meatpacking District walking around with a tiny animal of her own.

Of course, toting a pint-sized pooch the size of a Jacquemus Le Chiquito purse is bound to pique the interest of sartorialists. But for those who can’t go near a furry friend without carrying a stash of antihistamines, Holmes has offered an inventive approach to achieving the same effect without actually parading your pet around.

We’re, of course, referencing the abstract illustration of a donkey that lined the breast pocket of the white button-down. If you can’t beat them, you might as well join them, right Katie? Holmes’ shirt came courtesy of Danish label Munthe.

Presented during the Spring/Summer 2024 collection presentation during Copenhagen Fashion Week, the graphic piece actually felt right at home during the downtown outing as the artwork was designed in collaboration with New York-based artist Heather J. Chontos. (Aline Gaiad, who works in London, also worked on the design).

Holmes continued the animal motif by pairing her slouchy shirt and relaxed black pants with a pair of white Gucci Horsebit loafers. With her footwear borrowing from the equestrian world and her shirt a bona fide sartorial mule, Holmes has showcased the ultimate packhorse ensemble. Giddy up!
