It is unlikely that you will ever see Kate Middleton recreating the “revenge dress” of the ’90s but, throughout her most recent appearances the Duchess of Cambridge has taken cue from her late mother-in-law. Princess Diana. At the weekend the Royal was accompanied by Prince William and son, Prince George for the England vs. Wales Six Nations rugby match.

The Duchess was photographed wearing a Holland Cooper houndstooth blazer, black turtleneck knit and tailored pants. Princess Diana had worn almost the same look in 1993 where she attended the same match. Instead she paired her blazer with a black maxi skirt and boots.

Of course it is not the first time the Royal has paid homage to the Princess of Wales. Just last week, Middleton reunited with Crown Princess Mary of Denmark in Copenhagen for a visit to the Danner Crisis Centre wearing a grey Catherine Walker with black lapels. Diana embarked on a similar charitable visit in London in 1984 where she wore a similar piece.

Meghan Markle is also regularly inspired by the Princess’s past looks and recently on trip to New York City carried a Dior ‘Lady D-Lite’ bag which was named after the late Royal.

Middleton has become known for wearing more accessible high-street pieces as well as re-wearing older pieces from her no doubt, huge wardrobe.

At the inaugural Earthshot Prize in London last October, guests were aptly asked to wear a recycled look for the lavish affair. The Duchess of Cambridge opted for her all-time favourite designer, a pastel lilac Alexander McQueen gown she wore at the 2011 BAFTA Awards and in a subtle update, swapped the silver-clad belt for a gold one.
