This week Kate Middleton embarked on her first solo trip since the pandemic in 2020. Her travels were of course met with some beautiful style moments but perhaps more iconic was her highly-publicised reunion with the Crown Princess Mary of Denmark. The pair first met in 2011 and have remained close friends since.

The Duchess of Cambridge and Crown Princess were photographed at Christian IX’s Palace where she was introduced to Queen Margrethe II. The Danish monarch is celebrating 50 years on the throne in 2022 and marked the occasion with a photo alongside Kate and Mary.

The Duchess is not one for straying from traditional attire and wore a Catherine Walker grey double-breasted coat with black lapels and sleeve cuffs reminiscent to a piece Princess Diana wore in 1984. The designer now behind the namesake label, Cyrus, once said in an interview that the royals approached Catherine Walker “for garments that are suitable for the role they are playing and match up to the power they have”.

The midi-style piece was paired with a black top-handle Mulberry bag, Gianvito Rossi pumps, black leather gloves while she was outdoors and pearls by Monica Vinader. Mary wore a bright white tweed mid-length coat, long-sleeve black midi dress and Gianvito Rossi pumps.

According to reports, the Royal friends took part in a private lunch at the Danish palace before travelling to the Danner Crisis Centre to see the ongoing charitable work by the Mary Foundation. The foundation was launched in 2007 and has since worked to champion women’s and children’s rights in Denmark and also supports initiatives in third world countries in East and West Africa.

The Crown Princess hails from Hobart, Australia. Her fairytale love story was sparked at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney where she met Prince Frederik, the heir to the throne in Denmark, at a pub. They fell in love and wed in 2004. They share four children.
