Glass Onion star Kate Hudson turned tuxedo-clad photographer’s lenses her way today at the 28th Critics Choice Awards. The 43-year-old – resplendent in a sheer, beaded, silver gown by Oscar de la Renta – was on hand to present her friend and costar Janelle Monáe with the SeeHer Award. (The gong is presented each year by the Critics Choice Association to “someone who advocates for gender equality, portrays characters with authenticity, defies stereotypes and pushes boundaries.)
In the same way her How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days character Andie Anderson had our hearts when she told Benjamin Barry “You can’t lose something you didn’t have”, Hudson showed up today. Take a look at all angles.
Monáe, 37, delivered a powerful speech, clarifying her pronouns are “she/her, they/them and free-a** mother-f**ker.”
“I try to make an effort in my work … to highlight the ones who have been pushed to the margins of society, who’ve been outcast or relegated to ‘the other,’”said Monáe. “This is a deeply personal choice for me because I grew up to working-class parents: My mother was a janitor, my father was a trash man, and my grandmother was a sharecropper in Aberdeen, Mississippi.”
“And it’s personal because I am non-binary, I am queer, and my identity influences my decisions and my work.”
Also starring Daniel Craig, Madelyn Cline, Leslie Odom Jr., Dave Bautista and Kathryn Hahn, the Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery cast was awarded best acting ensemble and best comedy.
