The world may still be in the midst of a global pandemic and fashion shows may be taking place digitally, but even that won’t stop a trend from taking hold. After months of low-key loungewear and rotating between sneakers, slides and slippers, it seems the shoe of the season has been defined.

Unsurprisingly, it comes courtesy of JW Anderson, the British designer who can do no wrong. First debuted during his eponymous label’s autumn/winter 2020 collection, JW Anderson’s chain loafers feature a cork sole – not dissimilar to everyone’s favourite summer sandals, Birkenstocks – and, most significantly, are adorned with a huge gold chain.

Famous faces who’ve been spotted wearing the style recently include Emma Roberts, The Crown star Emma Corrin, soccer player Megan Rapinoe, designer Marc Jacobs and, most recently, singer Dua Lipa.

Lipa, who recently celebrated her 25th birthday in Malibu, California with friends and her partner, Anwar Hadid, was photographed wearing her pair with baggy jeans and a loose, striped purple shirt while taking her puppy for a walk around LA. The singer has been sharing her quarantine moments via Instagram, including a recent trip to Palm Springs and a beachfront house in Malibu. Oh, to be in California (and a multi-millionaire).

The loafers are currently sold out in black, but they’re also now available in blue, pink, beige and a whole array of other colours.
