Ask any international fashion designer, textiles expert or manufacturer where the highest quality cotton in the world comes from and they’ll all say Australia. In the textile arena, this country produces the Rolls Royce of the natural fibre.

So that said, it’s hard to believe no brand here or otherwise has ever made an entire woven womenswear collection of 100 percent pure Australian Cotton – until now. High street brand Jeanswest has stepped up its under-radar commitment to ethical materials by teaming with national agricultural body Cotton Australia to create the world’s first all-Aussie woven cotton collection of womenswear.

The range, which is now available instore and online, has a resort feel and features hero pieces like an off-the-shoulder top, a timeless classic striped shirt and (GRAZIA’s favourite) distressed indigo jeans with strategically-placed patches that work as a low-key embellishment.

Why should we all be getting excited about home-grown cotton? Apart from the feel-good ethical factor – it’s grown under the world’s best environmental social practices – the higher quality, whiter raw fibre means the piece of clothing you end up with is far softer, and holds its shape and colour longer too.

In the case of items like denim, it also means you don’t need to wash as often (which, again means you preserve your colour and shape, long-time).

“The soft stripes, embroidery and tie detailing align with the trends we’re seeing come through for this summer,” says Jeanswest Womenswear Senior Product Manager Lisa Hunter. “And of course we’ve included a pair of jeans – a beautifully crafted ripped and repaired slim boyfriend fit that customers will love.”

“This collection is an Australian fashion story… We were thrilled to be standing in a cotton field, where it all begins, at the very start of the manufacturing supply chain.”

The Australian Cotton Womenswear Collection is available now online and in store in sizes 6 to 16.

This is the first time Cotton Australia has supplied an all-Aussie woven cotton womenswear collection
