Megan Gale’s shoes wouldn’t be easy ones to fill, but Australian retailer David Jones had good reason to assume new supermodel Victoria Lee would fit them perfectly when it recently announced her its new brand ambassador.

The 27-year-old from Narrandera in the Riverina region of rural New South Wales was propelled into a new modelling stratosphere after being selected for the the 2017 Victoria’s Secret runway show in Shanghai, where she walked alongside some of the biggest supermodels in the world.

The fact that on top of her stunning looks, she’s whip-smart, warm-natured and gives great, authentic chat – all facts witnessed by myself when I interviewed her between the dress rehearsal and main David Jones AW18 show – makes her pure commercial gold.

Twice a year, David Jones holds a star-studded epic runway event showcasing the key trends for both womens- and menswear in store that season. Tonight will be Lee’s first public walk for the brand as ambassador, appearing alongside current face Jessica Gomes – who celebrates her fifth anniversary with the brand – and male supermodel Jordan Barrett.

It’s no coincidence her first campaign for David Jones (shot by James Nelson and also starring Mali Koopman and Jenella Powell) drops today to coincide with the high-profile runway show – her coming out party, as such, for the brand.

Lee’s face also appears in David Jones store windows as part of the new season campaign, a fact that has extra significance for her family

“One of my first memories is driving five hours to Sydney to see the David Jones Christmas windows,” says Lee, whose parents made the same journey to see her walk for the brand tonight. “Now I’m IN the windows!

“To be a part of such an iconic Australian brand family is something that’s very special to me.”

“I’m such a fan of Australian fashion,” adds the model, who deferred a degree in dietetics to give modelling a red hot go at age 19. Now, based in New York, she’s one of Australia’s most successful on the world stage – not to mention biggest local fashion advocates.

“I wave the flag as much as I can. I was wearing the most amazing [green] Camilla and Marc dress in the campaign and that was just stunning.

“I love Dion Lee and AJE and Alice McCall. I’m very proud of Australian fashion.”

Tonight’s show will see luxury international brands like Balmain, Balenciaga, Chloe, Valentino, Hugo Boss, Emporio Armani showcased alongside some of Australia’s most successful, including Dion Lee, Christopher Esber, Kit X, Bassike, Bec and Bridge, By Johnny, Bianca Spender, Calibre, Carla Zampatti, AJE, Magraw, Camilla, Alice McCall, Romance Was Born.
