It’s not often that engagement announcements stir feeling in our cold souls. Well, maybe you’re a little more sentimental, but it at least has to be said that there is a lot of cliche that does the rounds when it comes to romantic announcements – unless you’re fashion designer Harris Reed, who this morning penned the most beautiful words for partner Eitan Senerman to announce their engagement.
Reed – fashion designer, creative director for Nina Ricci, champion of gender fluidity and Extremely Stylish Person – shared the news via a series of Instagram photos that covered his beautifully whirlwind relationship with boyfriend Senerman, plus the sweetest throwback of Senerman’s dating profile.
And yes, we got to see the ring.
The ring is, of course, incredible – but it’s Reed’s words that had us sharing a tear.
I, for once in my life, am at a total loss for words,” Reed begins. “I grew up my entire life watching straight couples sharing to the world their engagements and declaring their love and support of each other in being life partners, rock solid through the bad and the good. Born into a world where two queer individuals were not allowed to marry one another (and of course still illegal in so many places) I never thought I would be able to have this moment to make the announcement into the world that two individuals who love one another and that their love can be accepted, that there is light at the end of that tunnel.”
Reed continues, calling Senerman the “light of my life”. “I love you and this family of love and acceptance we are building.”
Reed’s engagement tops off an incredible year for the designer – the 26-year-old was recently announced as creative director for Nina Ricci, but had already made a name for himself via his label Harris Reed – Beyonce and Harry Styles have worn his pieces, and he famously designed Camille Charriere‘s sheer wedding dress in 2021, which subsequently went viral, spawning a new bridal trend.
Charriere, along with many other prominent names from the fashion and celeb set, flooded Reed’s comments with congratulations for the couple, with stars like Phoebe Bridgers, Bryan Boy and Lily Collins all celebrating this sweet love story.
