It’s the end of an era for Marni.

Consuelo Castiglioni – the founder of the coveted label, who has been at the helm of the brand since its establishment – is stepping down as the creative director. Now, Francesco Risso is taking the reigns. In an official release from Marni, Ms Castiglioni cited personal reasons for stepping down after 20 years.

“These were hectic and exciting years, which absorbed all my energies to create a project I am proud of,” she said.

“Thanks also to the support of my family who allowed me to stay true to my idea. I built a brand with a recognisable identity. The time has come to dedicate myself to my private life. I thank all the people who believed in this project and who, with loyal dedication, have helped me along this fantastic journey.”

Ms Castiglioni has established a huge celebrity following for the brand – with Kim Kardashian, Olivia Palermo, Kate Bosworth, Miranda Kerr, Milla Jovovich, Drew Barrymore and even Miley Cyrus are all fans of Marni.

So who exactly is Francesco Risso? The designer is coming from having the lust-worthy title of being Miuccia Prada’s right hand man – having worked with the famed designer on women’s show collections since 2008. He has also worked at Anna Molinari, Alessandro Dell’Acqua and Malo.

“I am happy to welcome Francesco, whose talent will contribute to writing a new chapter in the history of this house, which is Italian at heart and global in spirit,” Renzo Rosso, the presenter of OTB – Marni’s parent company – says.

Known for its often off-the-wall aesthetic, with ostentatious prints, textures and volumes, only time will tell if Mr Risso will stick to the same Marni we know and love at present.
