As 2020’s breakout star, Florence Pugh, arrived at the 2020 BAFTAs in her home country of England, fans patiently waiting outside in the brisk British winter went wild.

While she paused to adjust the train of her hot pink Dries Van Noten gown, yells of ‘Queen’ and ‘Coming to get your BAFTA!’ prompted the 24-year-old Little Women star to laugh and wave to the crowd, before she put her poker face back on and ascended the stairs, prepped and ready for one of the biggest career moments of her life.

Though she’s nominated for her first Academy Award, the BAFTAs have a special place in Pugh’s heart: the evening honours the best in British film and talent over the past year and Pugh hails from Oxford, just outside of London. With her family and friends in the room, and the likelihood of her winning Oscars glory so much higher should she win tonight, the next few hours will no doubt be nerve-wracking for the 24-year-old, whose breakout film was released just one year ago.

Nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Amy March in Greta Gerwig’s Little Women, Pugh is up against Laura Dern, Scarlett Johansson and Margot Robbie.

Whether she wins big tonight or not, there’s no denying, this is just the beginning for Florence Pugh. Our fingers and toes are crossed.
