Emma Roberts has given a tour of her whimsical Los Angeles home, which she describes as a “grown-up doll house”. Ahead, a peek inside the abode and interior pieces to replicate her fairytale aesthetic at home. Credit: Instagram/@emmaroberts

Another week, another celebrity home to covet. The latest addition to the canon comes courtesy of former Nickelodeon child star turned our favourite witchy wild child, Emma Roberts. The 33-year-old opened the doors to her Los Angeles residence for Architectural Digest, in turn giving us nosy voyeurs a glimpse at her eclectic taste in interiors.

Roberts purchased the cottage-style Hollywood Hills home from fellow actress Minnie Driver back in 2021 for a refreshingly affordable USD $3.2 million. (Well, that is by A-lister standards. Need we direct you to the multi-million homes listed on Netflix’s Selling Sunset or Buying Beverly Hills?)

The 1920s colonial estate is more intimate than expansive, featuring 2,500 square feet, three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms and a second-floor main suite with a private patio overlooking the backyard. Yet, when the American Horror Story star toured us around the Californian bungalow, netizens were captivated by the fairytale charm and personality saturated throughout the abode.

“Minimalism is not my strong suit,” Roberts joked. “Every house I’ve ever lived in feels a little bit like a cabinet of curiosities.” She describes the residence as a “grown-up doll house” which is the perfect analogy for the storybook-style décor. While we’d describe the home as ‘feminine romantic gothic’, it’s not hard to be instantly besotted with the mix of vintage furniture, warm tones and botanical prints overrunning the residence.

Of course, given this is an AD-approved celebrity house tour, the home isn’t without its quirks. Some border on the acme of ‘cool girl’, including her vintage bar, collection of classic contemporary literature like Eve Babitz, Joan Didion, Françoise Sagan, and her shrine to Joni Mitchell. (Roberts is the co-founder of the online book club Belletrist, after all.)

Other elements are unique to Roberts’ style, including the wall showcasing her assemblage of dolls, her Halloween-themed mug collection and the rare copy of Charles Portis’ “Norwood” stolen from a boyfriend following a breakup. (Evan Peters, don’t even think about coming to claim this back.)

It’s a rare treat to be gifted a look at a celebrity home so filled with character. And for that, we are endlessly thankful. Ahead, a closer look at Emma Roberts’ home, including pieces inspired by the actress’ aesthetic that you can add to your own property.

Homewares inspired by Emma Roberts’ fairytale abode:
Double-Rug
DOUBLE Mother Pink Chenille Rug, $480 SHOP NOW

Textures, prints and colours repeatedly clash throughout the entire property, with intricately detailed rugs prominent in every space of Roberts’ home. (Including her bathroom, because who doesn’t use a vintage-inspired rug as a bathmat?) This Chenille variant from Australia’s first-ever washable rug brand, Double, features a Persian-style pattern and two-toned amber and ruby colourways to add a striking dose of warmth to a residence. Plus, the romantic hues feel like something you’d find in a Princess fairytale, making it fitting for Roberts’ storybook aesthetic.

OLIVIA-VON-HALLE-Pyjamas
SARAH ELLISON HUGGY ARMCHAIR, $1699 SHOP NOW

With Roberts’ living room saturated in 70s-inspired caramel tones, reach for Sarah Ellison’s iconic ‘Huggy’ armchair for an equal measure of comfort and nostalgia.

OLIVIA-VON-HALLE-Pyjamas
OLIVIA VON HALLE Coco piped velvet pyjama set, $1025.69 SHOP NOW

As Roberts revealed most of her meetings and work are performed from her bathroom vanity (we mean, who could resist that Hollywood mirror lighting?), a pair of pyjamas that double as workwear is a must. If you hadn’t bitten the bullet during the COVID-19 pandemic and invested in chic leisurewear you can wear out of the house, allow Roberts’ “Open Door” to be your excuse. We recommend this velvet set from luxury sleepwear designer, Olivia Von Halle.

Tekla-Eye-Mask
Tekla Sleep Mask, $110 SHOP NOW

Roberts professed her love of stripes and tassels early on during the tour, so it’s a no-brainer to assume she’d endorse this languid sleep mask from Scandi fabric connoisseur, Tekla.

Maison-Balzac-Bread-Basket
MAISON BALZAC L’ESCARGOT BAGUETTE BASKET, $199 SHOP NOW

Maison Balzac’s array of surrealist glassware and home pieces would fit perfectly within Roberts’ enchanted cottage vibe. Case in point: this baguette basket rendered in the shape of a snail.  Yes, a bread basket feels like a luxury only an American or Parisian might invest in. But isn’t that all the more reason to own one yourself? With the natural raffia adding a coastal element to your home, this piece feels like something you’d find in a Brothers Grimm fable. Who needs Nancy Meyers when you can take interior inspiration from European gothic folklore?

Gohar-World-Doiley-Coasters
GOHAR WORLD COASTER, LACE WITH PEARL, $227 SHOP NOW

Roberts’ home doesn’t feel tied to a particular interior style or period, which makes these doily coasters from Gohar World a perfect addition. Given the actress revealed her limited bar-tending skills, the champagne coups Roberts serves to her guests would be instantly elevated if offered with this pearl-adorned ornamental drink mat.

Fourth-Street-Home-Egg
FOURTH STREET HOME BRASS EGG, $845 SHOP NOW

Raise your hand if you haven’t been personally victimised by Fourth Street Homes’ iconic brass egg. That is to say, this sculptural piece was the homeware du jour, making it a coveted staple and marker of good taste. Given Roberts’ recent acting project, American Horror Story: Delicateheavily referenced eggs, imaging this metal trinket on her bookshelf isn’t too farfetched.

Crystal-Goblet
REFLECTIONS COPENHAGEN Crystal bonbonnière, $959.54 SHOP NOW

A crystal bonbonnière is extravagant, but so is the eclectic mix of floral prints and vintage furniture littered through Roberts’ home, making this piece fit right in. Plus, the crescent moon topper would certainly earn her approval, given her love of witches and prominence for portraying on. (Hello, Maddison Montgomery from AHS: Coven). Whether you’re storing sweets in it à la the witch from Hansel & Gretel, or simply cotton buds on your bathroom shelf, this trinket does it all.
