Thursday, March 11, 2021: Emily Ratajkowski has given birth to her first child with husband Sebastian Bear-McClard. The supermodel announced the news via Instagram with a sweet photograph breastfeeding her newborn. It has already amassed two million likes and counting, as well as thousands of congratulatory messages from celebrity friends and strangers alike.

“Sylvester Apollo Bear has joined us earth side,” the model wrote in the photo’s accompanying caption. “Sly arrived 3/8/21 on the most surreal, beautiful, and love-filled morning of my life.” In the days, weeks, and months leading up to delivery, EmRata has kept her 27 million Instagram followers on their toes in anticipation, sharing au natural photos of her swollen baby belly.

The Inamorata brand founder announced her pregnancy—and her growing baby bump—in October 2020 via a special digital issue of Vogue. To accompany the big news, the Gone Girl alum penned an essay about identity and motherhood. One of the biggest takeaways was how important it was to her that she and her husband would let their child decide their gender for themselves. To that point, the couple refrained from sharing the gender of their child throughout Ratajkowski’s pregnancy.

“When my husband and I tell friends that I’m pregnant, their first question after ‘Congratulations’ is almost always, ‘Do you know what you want?’ We like to respond that we won’t know the gender until our child is 18 and that they’ll let us know then,” she explained. “There is a truth to our line, though, one that hints at possibilities that are much more complex than whatever genitalia our child might be born with: the truth that we ultimately have no idea who—rather than what—is growing inside my belly. Who will this person be? What kind of person will we become parents to? How will they change our lives and who we are?”
