LONDON, ENGLAND – JUNE 30: Ellie Goulding attends the celebration of Marriott International’s and Universal Music Group’s global marketing partnership, at the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel on June 30, 2015 in London, England.

Thanks to the pandemic, Ellie Goulding managed to keep her pregnancy a secret from the world until she was ready to tell the public her personal news on her own terms

At 30 weeks, Goulding revealed she and her husband, art dealer Caspar Jopling, were expecting their first child—something the singer said came as a complete surprise.

Now, the couple has revealed they’ve given birth to their baby, with Jopling noting the earth’s population has now increased by one on Instagram.

“Mum and baby both healthy and happy,” Jopling announced in the next slide. “Extremely grateful.”

Goulding’s husband then asked for her fans to allow the family privacy to enjoy their new addition, writing, “I don’t ever address the public attention that comes with Ellie’s job, but during this magical and personal moment we would really appreciate being able to enjoy our privacy…Thank you.”

Back in February, Goulding said that having a baby was “not the plan”: “The thought of getting pregnant didn’t seem like it could be a reality.”

She also noted that pregnancy can be “challenging,” saying, “the sickness and tiredness was nothing I’d ever experienced before. I feel like it’s a taboo to talk about pregnancy as being challenging. It’s not always serene and like you’re not always glowing. I’m not saying that every second of this pregnancy has been miserable. It’s not always going to be easy. [But] I have a newfound respect for any woman who has children.”

But Goulding noted there were upsides to the experience, too:“I have curves I’ve never had before. I’m enjoying it. My husband’s enjoying it.”

Congratulations to the happy couple. Now for a name, please.
