Dua Lipa has done it again. The red carpet favourite has once again stolen the show with her look, this time at the 2021 BRIT Awards. This time, Lipa paid homage to two iconic women – Amy Winehouse and Marie Antoinette. The star’s custom Vivienne Westwood ensemble evoked the French queen’s regal wardrobe, but it was her retro beauty look that really drew our attention.
Lipa’s makeup artist Lisa Eldridge gave the star a soft, shimmery eye with a muted nude lip and a romantic rouge that swept from the apple of the star’s cheeks to her temples. Connecting blush and eyeshadow is a makeup style favoured by the women of Antoinette’s era, which added to the old world air.
Her hair also took inspiration from Antoinette’s recognisable coif with a skyscraper bouffant. But Lipa’s look also recalled the infamous beehive hairstyle worn by Winehouse, with less structure and the strands piled high on her head.
Winehouse’s signature style is also characterised by sections of strands left loose around the face, which Lipa channelled via several face-framing waves left out at the front of her up-do. The end result was a nostalgic, more polished iteration of Winehouse’s look, with Lipa’s hair pulled back at the side and then backcombed at the crown to create height.
We never thought we’d be looking to try a bouffant again, but dare we say it – Lipa’s look has really reignited our interest.
