There’s no substitute for a proper skin treatment, but as far as DIY face mask recipes go, Dr. Barbara Sturm has one we’re intent on trying. The brand founder is an icon in beauty, tending to the complexions of anyone and everyone, including Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Hailey Bieber, Georgia Fowler and Shanina Shaik. She was originally an Orthopaedic surgeon who famously cured the late basketball legend Kobe Bryant’s knee condition, using his own blood cells to trigger an anti-inflammatory wound healing response. She eventually took this concept and applied it to skincare, starting with one product that utilised a patients own blood cells within a face cream. She pioneered the in-clinic “Vampire Facial” too, where blood was extracted, put through a centrifuge before being administered back into the patients skin (remember that photo of Kim Kardashian West covered in blood?). Now, her line of molecular cosmetics are stocked worldwide with a focus on healing, hydrating and fighting inflammation (if you haven’t tried before, the Hyaluronic Serum is iconic).

Given professional treatments are off the cards (for now) Sturm has been using her Instagram to highlight at-home treatments, both tools and products as well as DIY options. Her latest share is a DIY face mask recipe you can almost certainly pull from you pantry using just three staples: honey, avocado and Greek yoghurt.

Sturm explains that the mask is a nourishing, hydrating option for anyone that might be suffering dryness and irritation during isolation. The avocado, aside from making for a 10/10 toast topping, is loaded with fatty acids and vitamins C and E; Greek yoghurt contains probiotics to soothe and contains small amounts of lactic acid for mild exfoliation; whilst honey is a known humectant and anti-inflammatory to calm and seal in moisture. Good quality honey (authentic Manuka) is also antibacterial, making it a good treatment for any acne that might have cropped up. Simple mash them all up together, smear over face and leave on for 20 or so minutes before removing with a damp wash cloth. Pretty easy!
