Inspired by Ukrainian artist Olesia Trofymenko’s iteration of The Tree of Life, Christian Dior’s Haute Couture FW22/23 show in Paris yesterday had a mythical energy about it. Characterised by sumptuous fabrics, ornate embroidery, gothic lace detailing and and voluminous shapes, Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri’s signature corsetry and strength were ever present, but to a less obvious degree than seasons past. Instead, each look had a romanticised magic about it, including the hair and makeup.

Led by Creative and Image Director for Dior Makeup Peter Philips, the makeup specifically was ethereal and whisper light — translucent skin, baby-pink blush, barely glossed lips and all but bare eyes.
Philips used Dior Prestige Micro-Huile de Rose to prep and hydrate, before buffing in Dior Forever Skin Veil to soften the look of pores. Forever Foundation was used sparingly to unify the skin, while the lit-from-within glow came courtesy of Dior Addict Lipstick in shades 558 Bois de Rose and 720 Icône tapped across the cheeks and cheekbones. It was finished with a tiny sweep of neutral liner, the lightest lick of mascara, brow gel and some clear balm.

Hair was either worn smooth and glossy, or pulled into a low loose plait, finishing the folklore-inspired look perfectly.
