If you haven’t heard, Dior Fall 2023 is heading to Mumbai.

Though the luxury fashion house has its roots in France, India is an old friend. Gianfranco Ferre, stylistic director of the brand from 1989 to 1997, travelled the country extensively throughout his tenure, finding inspiration in colours and embroidery.

With a deep appreciation for traditional craftsmanship, Maria Grazia Chiuri now revives the connection. Having quietly spent the last two decades mentoring local artisans, the creative director helped to form the Chanakya School of Embroidery, a creative learning space where women wishing to penetrate the male-dominated industry can hone their skills. Since 2020, Dior show sets have featured tapestries created by the school’s pupils.

For the Fall 2023 ready-to-wear show, we’re reminded of India’s special place at Dior—and in the industry as a whole.

With each collection being an opportunity to connect us with a different side of the house, this season is an ode to tradition and the intricate details that have enabled Dior to transcend the trends and years.

A tribute to the visionary spirit of Christian Dior and his successors, who all had a profound admiration for the country, the collection showing, held at the historic site of the Gateway of India in Mumbai, is a celebration of the Indian savoir-faire and its indelible influence in fashion.

You can watch the Fall 2023 Ready-to-Wear show live from Mumbai on Thursday, March 30th at 8:30 pm (AEDT).
