He’s famous for his genius skills in mixing fierce tailoring and glittering fabrics in his runway shows, but Dion Lee has just turned his hand to a far more practical style of collection.

The Australian designer has created a new line of business suits for women using 100 percent wool in low-key black and navy that offer professional women a modern, designer twist on their everyday work outfit. Each features the geometric shapes and clever layering that has long been the Sydney-based Lee’s design signature.

Of course this isn’t the 31-year-old’s first foray into woollen wares. He was a global finalist for the 2013 International Woolmark Prize (which is essentially the Oscars of the textiles world) having won the Australian gong in 2012.

It’s not his first step into classic shapes either, having put his name and creative skills to collaborations with Cue that included A-line skirts, sharp jackets and sculpted dresses.

It’s never been proven that what you wear can propel your career, but it certainly can’t hurt to stand out style-wise for all the right reasons? It certainly makes that transition from boardroom to evening bar a breeze.

The range, priced from $701 for the layered pencil skirt up to $1577 for the wool crepe blazer and $1819 for the silk-trimmed long gilet, is now on sale online exclusively at Net-a-Porter, and in store at David Jones and Dion Lee boutiques.
