Hard as it may be to comprehend, 2018 is the year of the daggy dad accessory. Bum bags – politely renamed belt bags for those who can’t bring themselves to mutter the other moniker – are the biggest anti-tote style of the year. (Hot tip: wear across your body like a messenger bag for extra street-style cachet).

Meanwhile, ’80s rapper-vibe bucket hats are the only cool headwear other than turbans currently worth considering.

But the pièce de résistance is the footwear phenomenon now commonly known as the ugly-pretty trainer.

Everything you learned about shunning sneakers that don’t look slick? Control, alt, delete it all immediately. Rather, think extra-chunky clunky
sole, awkward shape, questionable colour palette and a cringe-factor akin to wearing Crocs to be on the right track.

Balenciaga’s sell-out Triple S platform sneakers epitomise the look, but Prada, Loewe, Louis Vuitton, Stella McCartney and Yeezy all produced their own versions, available now.

Bird-watching binoculars to complete the look are purely optional.
