You’re not alone in daydreaming about lavish outdoor weddings and festivities complete with bottomless rosé and picture-perfect glamour. On Tuesday, January 26, Virginie Viard presented the Chanel SS21 haute couture collection and simultaneously transported viewers to a fairytale-like wedding reception, with the perfect beauty look to go along with it.
“I knew we couldn’t organise a big show, that we would have to invent something else, so I came up with the idea of a small cortege that would come down the stairs of the Grand Palais and pass beneath arches of flowers, like a family celebration, a wedding,” said Viard in a press statement. “I love big family reunions, when the generations all come together. It’s so warm. There’s this spirit at Chanel today. Because Chanel is also like a family.”
Chanel global creative makeup and colour designer Lucia Pica dreamt up the glam, and creative hairstylist Damien Boissinot came up with the hairstyles. To align with Vivard’s concept of “warmth,” Pica gave models a soft and springlike rose-toned beauty look, and a glowy, bronzed complexion. The makeup artist likely used the new Chanel Spring-Summer 2021 beauty collection, specifically Les 4 Ombres Multi-Effect Quadra Eyeshadow in 368 Golden Meadow and the Fleurs de Printemps Blush and Highlighter Duo. The Chanel SS21 haute couture show’s hairstyles featured several iterations of floral crowns, created by Lemarié, floral artisans who have worked with the label since the 90s. These delightful creations decorated sleek middle-part ponytails and blunt-cut bobs. The greatest emphasis was on the timeless elegance of hair simplicity and the power of a hair accessory, be it a floral crown (as seen on the runway) or an embellished headband—more views of the hair below for inspiration.
