Of course the holiday season isn’t just about material gifts. But we’d be lying if we said our heart didn’t skip a beat when we learned that Chanel was launching its very own festive beauty advent calendar this year.
Shaped like an enormous bottle of N°5, the limited launch marks a festive end to the house’s year-long celebration to celebrate the 100th birthday of its most famous fragrance. Now over a century old, the iconic aldehyde floral is more than just a scent, but rather a poignant moment in the history of fine fragrance — and arguably the most influential beauty invention of all time.

Complete with 27 numbered boxes that range from 5 to 31 (a nod to Coco Chanel’s famous Rue Cambon Parisian apartment), the advent calendar contains a range of custom French beauty treasures, including a limited-edition Rouge Allure lipstick, a never-before-seen Le Vernis red lacquer, the infamous (and instagrammable) Chanel egg-shaped hand cream, tiny key chains, a snow globe, stickers and — of course — a bottle of N°5 Eau de Parfum.
Much like the brand’s other limited beauty drops, the advent calendar is sure to sell out in no time — especially as it feels less like a beauty product, and more like a collectors item or piece of art.
And at $1,140 a pop, it’s certainly a big ticket beauty item, but given the trying year we’ve had, it might just be the well-deserved holiday gift you’ve been patiently waiting for (perfect for those placed firmly on the nice list).
