If there ever were a time to revisit your favourite movies from that glorious decade known as the 90s, it’s now with Netflix offering up temporary escapism from the stale existence that is staying inside. And while the 1994 film The Mask starring Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz isn’t of the most appropriate title given these times we’re living in, its heroine and her red dress is the post-quarantine aspiration we all need this week.

Take, for instance, the bank scene. A 21-year-old Diaz in her breakthrough role as Tina Carlyle enters a New York bank. Sultry, seductive and sopping wet from the rain, she fixes her stiletto, shooshes her hair and strides – in a red midi with a thigh-high split – toward the bamboozled and timid bank clerk Stanley Ipkiss (Carrey). The iconic scene reveals Tina is actually working for the baddies and her handbag has a video camera inside filming the perimeters of the building.

That’s right, before Margot Robbie’s Naomi Lapaglia in The Wolf Of Wall Street and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s Carly Witwicky in Transformers: Dark Of The Moon, there was Diaz; a model signed with Elite who had never acted before. But gosh could she dance next to a green-tinged man.
