Britney Spears’ fiancé Sam Asghari has been busy advocating for Spears to be free of the unjust conservatorship over her life and finances, which finally happened last month. Amid the exciting personal developments for the pair, who recently got engaged, Asghari has also had some professional news, landing his first major acting role alongside Mel Gibson in his upcoming thriller, Hot Seat.
The action film follows an ex-hacker who “is forced to break into high-level banking institutions by an anonymous man who planted a bomb under his chair at his office,” per Deadline. Gibson will star as the man who tries to break through the building, while Kevin Dillon will play the man targeted in the “hot seat.” What role Asghari will play has not yet been revealed.
After beginning his career by starring in music videos for the likes of Fifth Harmony and Spears (where the couple first met), in 2016, Asghari began acting in shows such as NCIS and The Family Business. This past year, he’s appeared in HBO’s Hacks and Showtime’s Black Monday.
In May, the 27-year-old expressed his desire to be cast in more films, specifically mentioning action as a genre he was interested in. “Action is something that I want to do — action, drama, thriller — that’s a genre that I want to really get into,” he told Variety in May. “But if you can do comedy, you can do anything.”
“My ultimate goal is to really become a well-rounded actor. I’m doing a lot of MMA training, I’m doing a lot of gun and stunt training to be a well-rounded actor such as Tom Cruise, such as Jason Statham,” he continued. “My ultimate goal is to be the first Middle Easterner that plays a superhero. Marvel or anybody — they should give me a call.”
Asghari and Spears first met on the set of her music video for ‘Slumber Party’ in 2016. Asghari told Forbes he was going to turn the job down to focus on moving into films and TV, but a friend of his referred him to the team working on casting the lead role and Spears requested him personally from there.
“My girlfriend now at the time, personally she picked my picture and she wanted me to be cast in the music video,” he said. “My friend called me and said, ‘I need you to be on it. Trust me, you want to show up.’ ” He added, “I didn’t know who was shooting. It was a secret project. So I showed up because of my friend. I showed up and everything just kicked off from there.” The pair got engaged earlier this year.
