It might be time to leave Britney Spears alone. While the globe praised recent New York Times documentary, Framing Britney Spears, the “Toxic” pop star has revealed that she cried for two weeks after its release. In a lengthy caption posted to Instagram, Spears says she has been “embarrassed by the media.”

“My life has always been very speculated… watched … and judged really my whole life!”, the star began writing to social media. “For my sanity I need to dance to @iamstevent every night of my life to feel wild and human and alive!”

“I have been exposed my whole life performing in front of people,” Spears continued. “It takes a lot of strength to TRUST the universe with your real vulnerability cause I’ve always been so judged… insulted… and embarrassed by the media… and I still am till this day! As the world keeps on turning and life goes on we still remain so fragile and sensitive as people!”

The 39-year-old admitted that while she hadn’t seen the full documentary, she saw enough that it embarrassed her enough to cry for weeks.

“I didn’t watch the documentary but from what I did see of it I was embarrassed by the light they put me in … I cried for two weeks and well …. I still cry sometimes! I do what I can in my own spirituality with myself to try and keep my own joy … love … and happiness! Every day dancing brings me joy! I’m not here to be perfect … perfect is boring … I’m here to pass on kindness!”

It is the first time the artist has publicly spoken about the documentary which attempted to unpack her early life and the subsequent highly-criticized conservatorship under Spears’ father, Jamie Spears. The project was off the back of the #FreeBritney movement created by her fans in 2019.

Spears is considering a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey – along the same vein of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s – but wants to ensure that she’s truly telling her own story.
