What would it take to convince you to travel to a private island with a charming, vaping billionaire? Now factor in that he looks like Channing Tatum. Would you accept the invitation?

This is the premise of Zoë Kravitz’s directorial debut Blink Twice. The film, previously titled ‘Pussy Island’, has already gained a legion of acolytes already given it’s the project that brought Kravitz and her now-fiancé Channing Tatum together. (Kravitz has previously admitted she didn’t expect to fall in love when casting him, revealing she was instead drawn to the fact he was a feminist and “wasn’t afraid of exploring that darkness”.)

But with our first glimpse at the project through the release of the first trailer, cinephiles will have a psychological bloodbath to sink their teeth into come August. As netizens pointed out on Kravitz’s Instagram post sharing the trailer, Blink Twice is set to be a Bodies Bodies Bodies-style satire meets Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery twisted thriller.

If that’s piqued your interest, keep scrolling below for everything to know about Blink Twice, including what Kravitz and Tatum have revealed about the movie.

What Is Blink Twice About?

As per the official logline, Blink Twice follows a cocktail waitress who becomes infatuated with a tech mogul and travels with him to his private island, where things go horrifically wrong. The trailer, however, gives us more insight.

Over the two-minute run time, we see Frida (Naomi Ackie) and Jess (Alia Shawkat) charmed by Tatum’s Slater King, a wealthy, well-connected billionaire. After a night at a swanky gala, the pair throw caution to the wind and board King’s private jet to join him and his consiglieres to his private island. Between endless champagne coupes and traditional Russian banya treatments, Frida begins to descend into a vortex of paranoia as not all as it seems.

A bloody Slater tells us at the start of the trailer that everyone’s dead, so it’s clear Frida should’ve heeded the warning when she asked someone to “blink twice” if she’s in danger.

Who Stars In Blink Twice?

Blink Twice will see Tatum embody a completely different character not yet seen in his body of work. Kravitz revealed that this was what gravitated her towards him. “[Tatum was the one] I thought of when I wrote this character,” she told Deadline in 2021. “I just knew from Magic Mike and his live shows, I got the sense he’s a true feminist and I wanted to collaborate with someone who was clearly interested in exploring this subject matter.”

Later, in a 2022 cover story, Kravitz praised Tatum’s performance, explaining, “You need to be so far from who this is, where it’s not scary”. “I don’t think we’ve ever seen him play someone dark,” she said before adding she’s “excited to see him do that”.

A suite of Hollywood heavyweights round out the cast, including British actress Naomi Ackie, who most recently portrayed Whitney Houston in the biopic Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody, and comedy veteran Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development, Search Party). Christian Slater (Heathers, Mr. Robot), stars as Tatum’s “left and right-hand man” while Haley Joel Osment (The Sixth Sense) appears as a member of the billionaire’s entourage. David Lynch muse (and everyone’s new favourite TikToker) Kyle MacLachlan is also listed in the cast, so don’t be surprised when Charlotte York’s ex-husband, Trey McDougal, makes a surprise appearance.

When Will Blink Twice Be Released?

Blink Twice is set to hit theatres on August 23. Amazon is handling the distribution, meaning that the film will also make its way onto the streaming giant Prime soon enough.
