As one of the esteemed co-chairs at this year’s event, we always knew Billie Eilish was going to knock it out of the park when it came to her outfit for the 2021 Met Gala. But dressed in a nude, corseted tulle gown by Oscar de la Renta (who also dressed Anna Wintour), the singer looked literally breathtaking.
Jewellery came courtesy of Cartier who have loaned to the biggest stars this evening. On Eilish, you’ll spot Cartier’s High Jewellery earrings, Reflection de Cartier High Jewellery bracelet, Cartier Essential Lines bracelet, Reflection de Cartier High Jewellery ring, Reflection de Cartier ring, Étincelle de Cartier ring, Cartier Maillon Panthère ring wedding band, and the Broderie de Cartier wedding band.
Eilish presumably wore a custom creation from the Dominican-born American fashion designer in line with this year’s these, Celebrating In America: A Lexicon Of Fashion. It’s also, interestingly, one of the first times Eilish has worn a dress on the red carpet (she usually favours oversized shorts, jackets and hoodies — a move she’s purposefully made over the years to ‘hide her body’ from the press).
The 2021 Met Gala is also Eilish’s first appearance at the anticipated event. In 2019 she was only 17, making her too young to attend. The MET Gala was also cancelled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The corseted, waist-cinching shape and airy naked fabric felt distinctly old Hollywood. Eilish also wore her freshly-died platinum blonde hair in a retro, chin-grazing blow dry, plus a sultry, glamorous makeup look. Robert Rumsey created her bold eye and soft lip look using Charlotte Tilbury, including the Luxury Palette in The Sophisticate and Golden Goddess, Rock ‘n’ Kohl Pencil in Bedroom Black and Full Fat Lashes Mascara. The stained berry lip came courtesy of Lip Cheat in Iconic Nude and K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick in Runway Royalty (fitting).
“The inspiration behind Billie’s makeup look was old Hollywood glamour meets rockstar. We paired a rich, smouldering smokey eye and a nude lip with an illuminating highlighter for the ultimate Hollywood glass-like glow”, Eilish’s makeup artist Robert Rumsey told press.
Paired with a substantial stack of diamond rings, Eilish looked like remarkably similar to Marilyn Monroe — a far cry from her usual boyish, exaggerated silhouettes.
