Earlier today, in mid-Manhattan’s salubrious Hammerstein Ballroom, which just happens (trivia moment) to be located in the aptly-named Garment District, the who’s who of style and celeb circles gathered for the industry’s biggest night of the year. Winning a CDFA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) award is akin to an Oscar and brings with it similar amounts of legend status for winners. It also guarantees the brands they design for (and most often, own) become hotter than hot property for the days, weeks, months that follow.

This year, Marc Jacobs walked away with the coveted womenswear crown (aka Womenswear Designer of the Year), saving a possible world of squabbling over who’d get to wear it between the other finalists who were all double acts: Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen (The Row), Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez (Proenza Schouler) and Kate and Laura Mulleavy (Rodarte).

Thom Browne was named Menswear Designer of the Year, while Gucci’s Alessandro Michele won the International Award. Crowd favourite Brandon Maxwell (Lady Gaga’s stylist and BFF) won the Swarovski Award for Womenswear, Donna Karan was presented the Founders Award, while  as the world now knows  Beyonce stole the limelight (or at least, heavily reflected it in her sparkling Givenchy tux) when she accepted the Industry Icon Award.

We love ready-to-wear as much as watching Blue Ivy hit the stage with her mom during award speeches, but what really makes our hearts beat faster here at GRAZIA are iconic pieces we can actually own. So in the spirit of celebrating all things CDFA today, here are our top picks from each of the Accessories Designer of the Year finalists starting with the winners, Mansur Gavriel’s Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel (who just happen to have the most in-demand bag in the world right now, official). Better still, they’re all available to buy right this second. Cher-ching!
