Bella Hadid possesses an inimitable way of dressing for her surroundings. In New York, her style ranges from vintage deep cuts fished out from the depths of Depop. When travelling Europe for fashion week, her silhouettes are as documented and chronicled as the pieces she models on the runway. In her new residence of Texas, her ensembles run the gamut of Western flair, with cowboy hats, boot-cut denim and leather accents. Yet, during a brief stint in Los Angeles, the upcoming beauty entrepreneur has proved that this one piece is the backbone of her supermodel off-duty wardrobe, irrespective of the locale.

The 27-year-old has stepped out in her former Californian hometown in a suede trench coat from Mango. Retailing for just under $800, the jacket features a soft camel tone and tie-up waist which Hadid left loosely wrapped to expose the black bralette she wore underneath. (See her look here).

As the supermodel’s acolytes would be aware, an oversized duster is a high-rotation item within her street-style arsenal. Like the Bec + Bridge trench preferred by Kaia Gerber, a coat provides the ability for models to blend into the busy cityscape when seeking privacy but also serves as a form of protective armour that reinforces and provides structure to any ensemble. (A perfect quality for someone whose days are spent booking jobs and running between go-sees).

On this occasion, Hadid has eschewed her signature Y2K flair for a more sleek aesthetic reminiscent of the ‘quiet luxury’ trend. Never did we think we’d see Bella Hadid swap her “weird girl” style—a TikTok trend that encourages an amalgam of different textures and prints and a nonconformist approach to dressing—for “stealth wealth”, yet here we are.

Given that Hadid is often the one setting the trends, not following them, we wonder if her minimal outing is reflective of a newfound sartorial maturity. In lieu of experimentation, Hadid has stuck to the staples set by 90s savants like Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. Her style evolution is already one of the most exciting of the 21st Century, and Hadid has just given us more reasons to keep all eyes on her. More to come, indeed.
