in the kardashian corner: Monica Rose
The CV. You’d be hard pressed to scan Instagram, Snapchat or any fashion-related platform without seeing Rose’s work. She outfits some of the most photographed women in the world – stars who can be identified by first name only like Kendall, Gigi, Kim and Khloe. Rose started working with Kim Kardashian back in 2007 when she was booked on a cover shoot for Complex magazine (long before anyone was Keeping up with the Kardashians). Rose then reconnected a few months later when she was booked on a shoot with Kourtney for Maxim. The rest is history.
What they’ll be wearing. Rose is all about the look-at-me factor (duh, it’s the Kardashians) and dresses her clients in tough but chic essentials that belie an ultimately sexy undertone. Think: Balmain, J Brand, The Row and Aquazurra. She also has all of her clients’ looks custom-tailored to fit each woman perfectly.
Tribe hang-out. The Nice Guy nightclub in West Hollywood, Los Angeles.
Signature look. Bodysuit, duster coat, thigh-high boots, leather pants and crop top.
Other tribe members. Chrissy Teigen, Bella Hadid, Chanel Iman, Giuliana Rancic and Kourtney Kardashian.
In the jenner corner: Ian Connor
The CV Last September the youngest of the K-clan drew a fairly disparate line in the sand – her sudden street cool transformation made sense after A$AP Mob protégé Ian Connor tweeted that he “got the Kylie Jenner styling job”. (Disclaimer: Monica Rose still styles Jenner for her evening looks while Connor has been tasked with off-duty). Connor followed this by swiftly ‘gramming a pic of Jenner wearing a fairly rare Supreme T-shirt, captioning the image And Tonight We Shift Cultures Thank You. He’s been catching a lot of press recently after finding himself in the middle of the Wiz Khalifa v Kanye West #coolpants Twitter beef, having originally worked with Wiz before switching gears to work with Kanye on his Yeezy Season collections. It’s clear that Kylie wants to be identified as a separate entity as her famous sisters, and what better way to do that than align yourself with an edgy 22-year-old with previous street credentials? Let’s call it a trade-off of cool between two cult-level kids who tap into two very different worlds.
What they’ll be wearing Streetwear, streetwear and more streetwear. Connor has already favoured dressing Jenner in Russian designer Gosha Rubchinskiy’s Autumn/Winter 2015 collection, Supreme, Virigl Abloh’s Off-White, hoodies by Paradis3 and of course, Vetements.
