Last year, Mickey and Mini Mouse had their moments in the cool fashion merch sun, plastered on everything from Victoria Beckham tees to Coach bags and cheap Cotton On sweats.

The My Little Pony crew made a stylish appearance on the Moschino Spring/Summer 2018 runway, giving Donatella Versace’s roster of out-of-retirement Supers a run for their Milan Fashion Week money.

But there’s one famous cartoon idol who screams ‘cute kitschy cool’ regardless the season – Hello Kitty – especially when she’s emblazoned on ready-to-wear in sequins for less than a hundred clams during party season.

That goes a long way to explaining why the limited edition ASOS x Hello Kitty Collection which launched globally on October 26 was such a wild success. Many of the 40-piece range’s hero buys – example, this white sequinned jumper shown below, which GRAZIA’s not-so-secretly obsessed with – sold out in all sizes in a retail heartbeat.

Both big-stakes brands had worked in partnership on the clothing and accessories collection, which has a street edge and is perfect for Christmas gifting (both self and otherwise).

Think Kitty cameos on classic collared shirts, big hoop earrings, classic and cheeky handbags, motif socks, sequinned party dresses, plain hoodies and even (our favourites) some rather delicious plush velvet pyjamas. Should you be inclined, there’s even a teddy bear-like hoodie with Kitty bows.

So what’s the good news if your summer won’t be complete without some cheap-stakes Kitty kitsch? ASOS held back a secret stash of stock and is making a second drop of the collection HERE tomorrow, November 15. Time to unleash your inner wild child and set that alarm for 12.01am.

TRIVIA POST NOTE: A BRIEF HISTORY OF HELLO KITTY

Contrary to popular belief, Kitty did not originate in Japan. Rather, she’s a Japanese character who was London-born in 1974 before going on to become a global cultural phenomenon and regular muse to designers, artists and 5-year-olds the world over. Given the girl-cat icon’s motto is, “You can never have too many friends” the cult-like fandom that followed is more than apt.
