Armie Hammer has finally spoken out about his allegedly leaked Instagram DMs, which caused a social media firestorm over the past week. The shocking messages, said to have been sent by Hammer to many different women, contain a number of extremely graphic fantasies pertaining to cannibalism, BDSM and rape. As claims and screenshots continued to mount in recent days, the embattled actor stayed silent on the controversy before releasing a statement to Variety today.
“I’m not responding to these bulls**t claims,” said the 34-year-old, before addressing his upcoming role alongside Jennifer Lopez in the film Shotgun Wedding. “In light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for four months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic. Lionsgate is supporting me in this and I’m grateful to them for that,” he added. He shares his two young children with ex-wife Elizabeth Chambers, who is yet to comment on the allegations against Hammer.
The Instagram DMs in question – which have yet to be verified – generated viral attention online due to their shocking nature, much of which is too explicit to reveal here. “I’ve cut the heart out of a living animal before and eaten it while still warm,” reads one private message that the actor is alleged to have sent. Another DM sees Hammer reportedly call himself “100 per cent a cannibal … I want to eat you. That’s so scary to admit. I’ve never admitted that before”.
While the messages are yet to be authenticated, the DM screenshots appear to have been sent from his official Instagram profile. Chambers is said to be “sickened” by the contents of the DMs, according to new reports from Daily Mail. “Armie appears to be a monster,” a source close to Chambers told the publication. “[He] had a whole other side to him that she wasn’t aware of. Whether it was always there and he kept it hidden, or something happened that changed him completely, she doesn’t know.”
