As if she took cue from Kim Kardashian at the Met Gala, Cardi B arrived at the American Music Awards this evening faceless. Instead of the extravagant hair and makeup she is known for, the rap star wore a Schiaparelli mask under a black tulle veil. Seemingly in an attempt to remain incognito if it weren’t for her recognisable tattoos and commanding presence.

The magnificent look was the brainchild of longtime stylist Kollin Carter. It was paired with a black sweeping strapless gown by the Italian house and long gloves that arrived complete with a gleaming manicure. Like Kardashian, we can imagine there was a full face of makeup under that mask.

The “WAP” artist will serve as the ceremony host for the evening with many more extravagant looks to be expected. Only she could top Saweetie’s 12 wardrobe changes at last week’s EMAs.

In September, Cardi B walked the streets of Paris wearing another Schiaparelli mask pulled from Daniel Roseberry’s most recent ready-to-wear collection. The bug-like head piece was paired with a Schiaparelli tweed blazer and oversized jewellery.

Roseberry has sat at the helm of Schiaparelli since 2019 where he has devised some of the most viral red carpet looks in recent years. Think Kim Kardashian’s green leather six-pack bustier for Christmas 2020, Bella Hadid’s daring Cannes Film Festival ensemble and Emma Corrin’s reimagined LBD for the Critics Choice Awards.

Held at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, Cardi B is also nominated for two awards at the AMAs; Favourite Female Hip-Hop Artist and Favourite Hip-Hop Song for “Up”. Performances for the evening include Jennifer Lopez, Olivia Rodrigo and Cold Play.

Stay tuned for more.
