Last week, she was a finalist in the highly coveted Model of the Year category at the British Fashion Awards, graced by A-list royalty of both the traditional and the fashion kind. The week before that, she won Model of the Year at the Australia Fashion Laureate Awards.

This week, the Adelaide-raised model of the moment Adut Akech has been unveiled a face of a 1990s-inspired Moschino Spring 2019 campaign, which was shot by photographic god Steven Meisel.

A series of five images featuring pop-colour pieces from the collection with paint splashes in the background to match prints on the tailored clothes, these images have the hallmarks of a campaign that will be referenced for decades to come: reworking the Power ’90s trend in ways only Jeremy Scott knows how.

Hadid and Akech aren’t the first big names we’ve seen in these pieces, though. Cardi B and Rita Ora have both stepped out in recent weeks wearing pieces from this kitsch, but luxe-looking range that drops in January.

Eighteen-year-old Akech, who was born in South Sudan and raised in Kenya before emigrating to Australia with her family, is joined by Bella Hadid in the campaign, along with Vittoria Ceretti (Italy), Fran Summers (Britain), and Meghan Collison (Canada).

Adding to the in-studio A-team were celebrity makeup artist Pat McGrath and hair maestro Guido Palau, both long-time Moschino collaborators, with styling by French icon Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele.

It’s fair to say Akech is now one of the most in-demand runway and campaign models in the world and set to be the biggest industry star Australia in 2019. Could she join the ranks of Elle Macpherson and Miranda Kerr as one of the all-time greats? Only time will tell.

Fun Fact: Adut Akech was born on December 25, 1999. This is one lady who’ll have epic amounts to celebrate this Christmas Day.
