In the lead up to her long-awaited album 30, Adele has appeared in an intimate conversation with Oprah. During the CBS special One Night Only which aired overnight (Australia will have to wait until November 21 to watch the interview on Channel 7), the “Easy On Me” singer discussed the break down of her marriage to entrepreneur, Simon Konecki.

The artist admitted that the realisation her marriage wouldn’t last was during a candid conversation with friends.

“We were all answering these questions in this very bougie magazine, and it was something like, ‘What’s something that no one would ever know about you?’ And I just said it in front of three of my friends, I was like, ‘I’m really not happy,'” Adele recalled. “‘I’m not living, I’m just plodding along.'”

The former couple finalised their divorce in March, 2021. Adele and Konecki first linked in 2011 and welcomed their now nine-year-old son Angelo in 2012. They married in 2018 and announced their split in 2019.

“I’ve been obsessed with the nuclear family my whole life because I never came from one,” she added. “In all these movies and all these books, when you grow up reading them, that’s what it should be. I just, from a very young age, promised myself that when I had kids, that we’d stay together. We would be that united family. And I tried for a really, really long time.”

The artist continued, “I was just so disappointed for my son. I was so disappointed for myself, and I thought I was gonna be the one that stopped doing those bloody patterns all the time.”

Despite the split, Adele and Konecki reportedly live up the street from one another in Beverly Hills to co-parent Angelo. She added to Oprah that she “trusts him with my life.”

“I feel like him and Angelo were angels sent to me.”
