We all let our imaginations run a little wild with holiday planning. Beyond the logistical gymnastics and various due diligence, we get carried away with who we will be. Pushing pause on our responsibilities, a waterside sojourn enables us to leave behind our 9-5 personas and embrace a different side of us, which bubbles under the surface and is—for some of us—just a touch more glamorous. For Joslin’s founder Elinor McInnes, this was the inspiration behind her latest designs.

Entitled ‘Cirrus’ after the wispy cloud formations that take bold hues at sunset, the collection is a love letter to the wholistic experience of holidays. “[Holidays] are a golden place where all of our senses are alive,” McInes tells GRAZIA. “The air is balmy, palm trees are rustling from the sea wind, you can hear faint ocean waves, your skin is warm from a day in the sun, you can smell coconut and sunscreen, you’re barefoot for days on end, and you are just so relaxed, that you are the best and happiest version of yourself.” And, as McInnes notes, the change usually manifests externally.

“It’s also a time when your wardrobe takes a holiday, and you wear colour and silhouettes that just hit differently,” she says. “You find yourself a little more effortless and relaxed in how you dress.”

Landing oceanside in our Toyota RAV4 GXL, we passed for a moment to take in the view. With so many offsite shows at this year’s fashion week, locations have been crucial in communicating brands’ vision. The air was chillier than usual for the time of year, but the car’s roomy boot held plenty of backup outerwear.

Set amidst Clovelly’s calming vista, the Melbourne-based brand‘s debut AAFW show was initially thrown for a loop by the very nature it takes inspiration from, with the runway moving further up the beach’s walkway thanks to an unpredictably high tide reclaiming the catwalk. The move wasn’t the only surprise of the show, though. After five years of predominantly neutral tones and more subtle iterations of key motifs, Cirrus presented us with a bolder look.

While there were signature elements of polished linens, broderie anglaise and self-covered buttons, bright sorbet hues, hand-knit embroidery, skin-baring cuts, and more billowy silhouettes offered a fresh vision for the summer ahead. Just as with past collections, pieces were evocative of flora, with McInnes particularly inspired by the magnolia flower for its luck and stability.
