Oversized sunglasses have the mysterious effect of concealing while still maintaining a symbol of chic. What better way to hide from last night’s judgment gaze or rather draw instant attention with super-sized frames to dominate your face. After all, celebs swear by their shades. I’m told large sunglasses help A-listers feel confident, especially if they’re shy. I realised I was having a similar moment during our shoot when I slipped on Ferragamo’s Transparent Burgundy Sunglasses on model Marie as seen here. Whether you’re championing your own paparazzi moment or sensibly avoiding the UV rays, giant sunnies are the ultimate accessory of coolness.

Extend your incognito look for workwear or weekend with an elongated streamlined coat, the ultimate in transitional suiting. My tip: go slightly oversized. That way you have the option to layer or choose off-duty style with a simple tee and baggy jeans or mini to add edge. We’re seeing plenty of the sling-back heels, but this pair from Zimmermann takes you from boardroom to brunch mode thanks to the fun hardware and calming shade of lilac. Don’t resist the temptation to match with the ultimate mini bag from Fendi. It’s sure to keep the conversation going.

Own and celebrate every inch of your curves. Advance contouring techniques in knitwear means you show off with confidence while feeling too exposed. I also love the idea of layering a bright webbed knit skirt or dress like this one from Camila & Marc seen peeking out under a Esse Studio long trench vest which can be worn many ways.

This season it was more about reveal than conceal. From sheers, lingerie dressing, rising hemlines and skin on display, the imagination is intimately up to you. While I tend to stick to neutrals, I couldn’t go past this neon orange lace bra from Simone Pérèle which I’d wear under a sheer top or mainstay slip dress for a careless but calculated look.

A new take on business casual. The vest, once part of the three-piece suit, has seasonless versatility and is a must-have edition to your closet. Wear it on its own, over a blouse, slip dress or in entirety with a matching suit. The double-breasted suit becomes off-duty especially when amped up with a floor skimming metallic kimono and ballet flats. Yes, start dressing for your inner child, for me it was the temptation to wear ballet shoes again but without being on “pointe”.

Rich tones of cognac, bronze, saffron and browns are a softer alternative to wearing black. I seem to have gravitated to a closet of neutrals, so choosing shades in interesting textures like silk blend organzas and sheers in the same colour family help build on my capsule collection. Relaxed proportions like these gold pants from Lee Mathews and a roomy silk blouse from Esse Studios still exude polish.

Nostalgic for Mary Janes and ballet flats? On and off the runway, expect to see plenty  from ultra platforms, square heels through to sensible flats. Perhaps the return of the classics or “balletcore” as fashionistas are coining the trend, is in response to the rise of Birkenstocks and Crocs. Don’t underrate comfort, just make sure they look stylishly elevated like these cute spectator ballet ‘flats’ by Christian Dior.

Do away with the idea of an ‘It-bag’ that will only last one season. Choosing an investment bag will retain its value while still providing heirloom cult status. Think Bottega Veneta’s Sardine Top Gold Handle Bag with its identifiable signature, the Intrecciato woven leather.

For end of year celebrations look not further than Celine with an expertly cut tuxedo jacket for day or night. It’s an investment piece you won’t regret and will get constant wear. I have boyish style tendencies but balancing out with the new “Lipstick” shade cross body bag indisputably seems to go with everything: denim, neutrals or black tie.
