There’s a fine art to being able to spend a day at the beach, then transition straight to a night out or cocktails at the poolside bar. Fashion blogger, global traveller and self-confessed beach junkie Nadia Fairfax shares her best styling advice.
Tip 1. Say no to sarongs. Long gone are the days of the floral fabric wrap; our cover ups are just as important as our swimwear. A light breezy cotton number is great to throw on as you come off the beach for a well-deserved drink and relax in the shade. This light, white and bright cotton dress is as cute as they come.
Tip 2. Layer over statement swimwear Prints look great under a neutral cotton dress. Oddly there is something quite classic about animal print swimwear. It is always in.
Tip 3. Jewellery wins I am a giant fan of wearing bling at the beach. A simple classic black bikini can go from boring to POW in a heartbeat. I love layering beautiful fine necklaces and adding a fabulous earring can elevate the whole look instantly. Hoops are a great way to really make a statement. The ones pictured from Elvis Et Moi are my favourite.
Tip 4. Go back to basics Black is a classic, hardworking colour and great for a cover up. Also a gem when it comes to wet swimmers.
Tip 5. Embrace simple details The raw edges on this dress are what grab my attention! I love the just-left-the-beach look.
Tip 6. Fabrication is key. A silky loose fabric that is roomy is key to just ‘throw and go’. Pair this back with a pair of sunglasses and a fabulous wide brim hat and you are poolside ready.
Tip 7. try a sexy neckline A deep V and a bare shoulder creates a sexy elegance that will take you from day to night with ease.
Tip 8. follow colour trends. We’ve been seeing these creamy pastel colours for a while now, but this summer they will be all over the beach – a la peach.
Tip 9. don’t forget make-up Wear everything with confidence and a summer glow. Dusting a bit of bronzer across your cheeks and collarbones tied in with your favourite lipstick and you are beach-to-bar ready.
