3 random Victoria’s Secret show facts we gleaned from these smartphone snaps

It's amazing what some insider snaps taken behind the scenes will reveal. For starters, the show starts way before anyone hits the runway

There would have been no shortage of smartphones and selfies cropping up behind the scenes at the Shanghai Victoria’s Secret extravaganza, but given OPPO was an official sponsor, there were few more than usual floating around backstage.

No doubt Lily Aldridge and Candice Swanepoel already own OPPOs given they are international ambassadors for the Chinese brand, but others were handed around the elite models to snap themselves pre and post-walk. These are some of those candid pics revealed in an Australian exclusive. And as much as we love staring at Angel perfection, the backgrounds tell a fascinating story too.

Here are 3 INSIDER facts we couldn’t help but notice

1. THE SHOW REALLY STARTS HERE Custom pink carpet and matching directors chairs with Victoria’s Secret embroidered across the back are brought in to jazz up the hair and makeup photos. And for good reason: almost every model is practically guaranteed to post an in-chair selfie from here, reaching more millions of followers than we could count. Then there’s the cameras – some filming for the brand’s own doco series, others for multiple international news outlets and magazines. Clearly, the models know they’re on show here. Who sits having their makeup done with such a perfectly off-shoulder draped gown otherwise?

2. THE MODELS ARE JUST AS STYLED HERE AS THEY ARE ON THE RUNWAY Pretty matching pink satin robes (which apparently are prone to slipping down often) over a plain baby pink bra and brief set. Even the hot pink Havaianas on their feet were uniform, showing off their perfectly pink polished pedicures. This runway show is a synchronised team sport and these players are expected in uniform at all time.

3. THERE ARE MEN IN SUITS EVERYWHERE A totally fashion-centric affair filled with edgy creatives and expert stylists? Absolutely not. This is a finely tuned commercial machine and there were plenty of suited ladies and gents milling around, eyes on their investment in the works. There are also plenty of men-in-black bodyguards to keep an eye on the big-name talent. Stylists are in matching non-descript black uniforms so they blend into the background. You’ll rarely spot denim or trainers anywhere either, despite most workers backstage being on their feet all day. This is a high-class affair with an office attire dress code to match.
