In a welcome distraction from the US election doom and gloom, Disney has released the first official trailer for the live-action Beauty And The Beast movie.

The remake of the classic 1991 cartoon stars Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as the Beast, and appears to have captured that mix of magic and melancholy that made the original Beauty And The Beast an instant classic.

Set to an instrumental of the Beauty And The Beast song (“tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme”), the trailer reveals the new adaptation is extremely similar to the original in both look and feel, giving viewers familiar with the first movie the sense that the beloved story really has come to life.

The secondary characters, such as Chip Potts the talking teacup, look to be as adorable and likeable as they were in the original, too.

From the eerie, snow-covered castle grounds to some of the most memorable lines from the original (“Come into the light”, Belle says to the Beast the first time they meet), the consensus is Disney has it spot-on.

Beauty And The Beast hits cinemas on March 17. Watch the first official trailer.
