Under undulating blue and grey skies and against the brutalist architecture of Sydney’s Carriageworks art and culture precinct—the home of Australian Fashion Week, which this year is presented by Pandora—the street style set proved that blank canvases are the ultimate mediums for self-expression. From the instance the heavens closed after days of perpetual downfall, the style savants attending Asia Pacific’s leading fashion event knew it was on. Merging local emerging talents with international luxuriates, attendees crafted silhouettes that certainly unleashed a sartorial rainbow.
The ‘pop of red trend’ saturated the asphalt in pieces from Lucy Folk’s new Ritual collection and the Gucci Jackie bags guest toted in the new Ancora burgundy. Outside of Albus Lumen’s opening runway, the distressed and ombré pieces seen on the catwalk translated into guests’ frayed denim and earth-toned tailoring. Models dressed in Rory William Docherty’s watercolour crushed silk and fur accessories parlayed the burgeoning New Zealand designer’s creations into wearable art worth displaying in situ.
