Never one to play it safe with her choice of roles or her style, Aubrey Plaza made a statement with her appearance on the 75th Emmys red carpet on January 15 at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theatre.
For her first major awards show of the year, where she was nominated for ‘Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series’ for her part in The White Lotus, the actress stunned in a buttery yellow silk gown by Loewe.
Boasting a floor-length column silhouette, the gown’s defining feature was a square of fabric affixed to the chest with an exaggerated pin woven through, resembling a Post-It note.
The dress originally appeared on the runway as part of Loewe’s Spring/Summer 2024 ready-to-wear collection; only it was modelled with bedazzled ballet flats, whereas Plaza opted for gold platform heels by Alexandre Birman.
The Parks and Recreation star also went for a retro half-up do that showed off her bangs and glammed up with berry-toned lips and big lashes.
Naturally, the look stirred references for another iconic Post-It moment in pop culture: Jack Berger’s unceremonious break-up note to Carrie in Sex and the City.
Artist Austin Blake Mays, whose work boasts some impressive SATC needlepoint, then got crafty with this mock-up that drove a portion of the internet wild.
Whether Plaza is a SATC fan is unknown, but we’re sure the actress would enjoy the joke. With or without the reminder of Berger’s jaw-dropping betrayal, the look was a winner in our eyes.
