Is it even the Met Gala if it’s not kicked off by a supermodel on the steps? For 2023, Emily Ratajkowski did the honours, arriving at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City mere minutes after one of the evening’s co-hosts, Dua Lipa, was posing for photographers in her white princess gown.
For the evening, which is honouring the late Chanel and Fendi designer Karl Lagerfeld with the theme “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” Ratajkowski, usually a fan of skin-baring red carpet moments (so much so that last year she made our list of the most daring looks of the night), opted instead for a light pink V-neck Tory Burch gown made of tulle with a black crisscross pattern throughout, leading to a full tulle skirt and long train.
The dress pays homage to the late designer through its colourways and intricate detailing reminiscent of recent Chanel collections, including its crisscrossing velvet ribbons set with tiny pearls along the bodice and black ribbon along the shoulders. Elevating her look even further through her beauty and makeup, the model, writer, and podcast host wore her brunette hair pulled back off her face and curled with a silver and black headband with a large black bow — an ode to Chanel — with a full fringe. She added diamond drop earrings and a slew of huge diamond rings, holding a feathered clutch in one hand.
For her makeup for the night, Ratajkowski wore dark eyeliner and eyeshadow with a smokey wing and glitter in the inner corners to match her dress, adding pink lip gloss to her lips and blush on her cheeks.
Leaving her face relatively foundation-free, Ratajkowski made sure to show off the freckles on her nose.
If these first arrivals are anything to go by, we can expect a very elevated Met Gala red carpet — Karl would be proud.
