Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde has been one of the most-anticipated film premieres of the 79th annual Venice International Film Festival, and leading star Ana de Armas certainly dressed for the occasion. On the red carpet, de Armas channelled Monroe with Messika diamonds, 50s-style waves, and a hand-pleated Louis Vuitton gown.
According to Variety, the film received a 14-minute standing ovation in Venice overnight with de Armas breaking down in tears at the reception.
Despite initial controversy around the casting of de Armas, Monroe’s estate have since come out to say they fully support the decision.
“Any actor that steps into that role knows they have big shoes to fill. Based on the trailer alone, it looks like Ana was a great casting choice as she captures Marilyn’s glamour, humanity and vulnerability. We can’t wait to see the film in its entirety,” a statement from Marc Rosen, president of entertainment at Authentic Brands Group (ABG), which owns the Marilyn Monroe Estate read.
De Armas was joined by Brad Pitt on the red carpet, who is a producer on the film. Pitt wore a tuxedo with black sneakers and a pair of black sunglasses on the red carpet.
