Across the weekend – and presumably in between several gulps of Pinot Noir (it had been a long week!) – GRAZIA editors were shocked to learn exes Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez had been hanging out, as per this report from Page Six.
The newly-single pair have reportedly been “spending time together in Los Angeles” and pictures of Affleck (who split from actress Ana De Armas in January 2021, and was engaged to Lopez in 2004) showed him getting out of what appeared to be Lopez’s car.
Lopez recently announced her split from fiancé Alex Rodriguez after a two-year-long engagement.
“Security picks [Ben] up at a nearby location and drops him off after spending a few hours at [Jennifer’s] house,” a source told the publication. Any reader that lived through Lopez’s beehive era will concur: we would give our right arm to see a Gigli co-star relationship renaissance play out in 2021. The mind boggles.
But where is Affleck’s ex-wife Jennifer Garner in all of this? And what does she think? Well, according to Entertainment Tonight, Garner is not upset that her children’s father is spending time with his ex-fiancé.
“Jen isn’t bothered by Ben hanging out with J.Lo or anyone else. She wants what is best for Ben,” a source told the outlet. “What matters most to her is Ben being a great dad. They’ve been in a good groove when it comes to co-parenting for a while and their kids’ happiness is Jen’s main priority.”
In 2002, Affleck proposed to Lopez even though her divorce from Chris Judd wasn’t final. The couple met on the set of the ill-fated movie Gigli. The ring was 6.1 carats and pink, and estimated to be worth AUD $3.52 million. Four days before the wedding, Affleck called the wedding off and Lopez was absolutely shattered.
In an interview with The New York Times in 2020, Affleck said that his divorce from Affleck was “the biggest regret of [his] life.”
A couple of weeks ago, Affleck gushed about Lopez in an interview with InStyle. “She remains, to this day, the hardest-working person I’ve come across in this business. She has great talent, but she has also worked very hard for her success, and I’m so happy for her that she seems, at long last, to be getting the credit she deserves.”
Affleck continued, commenting on Lopez’s Benjamin Button approach to ageing.
“Where are you keeping the fountain of youth? Why do you look the same as you did in 2003 and it kind of looks like I’m in my 40s…at best?”
More to come. Until then.. Pinot Noir.
