If you happen to see this very clever man, please give him a high five from us. Dion Lee just provided us all carte blanche to carry on our love affair with comfy flats this summer – both off duty and for formal soirees and even the office. Amen.

Sure, Teva was the go-to normcore runway shoe for a half dozen designers at Australian Fashion Week in May and shares in Birkenstocks aren’t likely to plummet any time soon, but Lee has done something neither of those brands can: make comfy sandals look and feel luxurious.

The tendril-strapped leather sandals custom-made in blush and black tones for his Spring/Summer 2017 show will go on sale to customers too at the start of 2017, as will the double-buckled black slide as well. Prices will start at $490, which certainly sits them above the likes of Teva on the budget scale, but considerably lower than the likes of Celine and Alexander Wang.

Just like Nicholas Ghesquiere, who created extra-comfy flat sandals for his Louis Vuitton Cruise 2017 Collection models given the extraordinarily long art gallery runway they had to navigate, Lee’s choice of footwear proves he’s a man who knows what women want: fashion and function.

Even self-confessed high heel obsessee Victoria Beckham took her final NYFW runway bow in a pair of supremely cool looking slides, with chances are we’ll be seeing something similar in her store very soon too. So it’s not a question of if you should invest in a pair this summer, but rather how many. Surely Dion’s three options wouldn’t be overkill?
