Life is very likely full of glamorous surprises for Australian model on the rise Chantal Monaghan – she’s gone from appearing on Foxtel’s 2014 series of The Face to walking at prestigious Paris Couture Week just last month.
But as these candid behind-the-scenes clips taken during a shoot to capture a new national advertising campaign for footwear brand Jo Mercer show, despite her high-impact career wins so far, Monaghan is still a low maintenance modelling success story.

Shot on location on the dried salt pans of Lake Sturt, in South Australia’s Gawler Ranges, the campaign required crew fly in by small private plane. Far from the curtained studio dressing rooms she’s by now used to for indoor shoots, Monaghan and crew worked from the back of four-wheel drives, caked in the same red dust that makes the shots’ background so dramatic.

“It was fun going to South Australia to do the shoot for Jo Mercer,” Monaghan told GRAZIA. “The crew were great, the location where we shot was amazing and the landscape was spectacular. We flew to the destination on a private plane…
“Even though I’m scared of small planes, it was really fun and exhilarating.”
Between takes, the 20-year-old model hugged a water bottle to keep warm, having her makeup reapplied in the truck’s front seat. The strong winds become apparent when you watch this candid video clip below.

And as you can see from these final images and the official Jo Mercer campaign video, every comfort-free effort was well worth it. The stunning salt pan backdrop is both serene and dramatic – much like the on-the-rise international model herself.
