On the final day of the Cancer astrological season, Selena Gomez celebrated her 32nd birthday with a beachside soirée fitting for the aquatic zodiac.
The singer and actress teased the upcoming festivities with a post earlier in the week where she expressed her gratitude for being surrounded by “human beings that make me better, challenge me, remind me day after day that every moment is a gift”. “That’s my pure joy,” she wrote before adding, “I thank God for the era I’m in. It’s been the best yet”.
Her sweet and sentimental messages continued throughout her birthday week, reserving the most significant for her boyfriend, musician Benny Blanco. While sharing images from the balmy party, Gomez posted a photo of the pair hugging with the caption: “Love of my life”.
This declaration of love isn’t uncommon for the couple. These friends-to-lovers were acquaintances for over a decade before taking their platonic relationship to a romantic level in late 2023. Blanco reciprocated the public display of affection on another Instagram post shared by the Emilia Pérez star.
Later in the day, Gomez released images of her beachy makeup and shared a glimpse of her birthday outfit: a canary yellow romper from Free People and a gold necklace with a ‘B’ initial. Quoting JAY-Z, Blanco wrote: “I got the hottest chick in the game wearing my chain”.
Gomez had previously opened up about her experience being single in her late 20s and how her desire to start a family led to conflicting feelings about her future. “I was alone for five years, and I got really used to it,” she explained.
“A lot of people are afraid of being alone and I probably tortured myself in my head for like two years being alone, and then I kind of accepted it. Then I came up with my plan, which was I was going to adopt at 35 if I had not met anyone.”
It turns out that she had met ‘the one’ but didn’t realise it until much later. As Gomez said herself in her 2014 single, the heart wants what it wants.
