Having trouble sleeping? Your restless nights could be an issue of bedroom Feng Shui. This ancient Chinese belief system promotes optimizing energy flow or “chi” in a space.

Some people firmly believe in its benefits for improving daily life. Your bed placement is not random according to Feng Shui. In fact, it significantly impacts sleep quality, health, and well-being.

Your bed is your bedroom’s most important element. It is where we recharge and rejuvenate. Feng Shui advises precise bed placement within the room and it should never align with a door.

“Death Bed”: Why shouldn’t you sleep with your feet facing the door according to Feng Shui?

According to Presse Santé, Feng Shui refers to a “death bed” when your feet face your bedroom door. This notion arose from Chinese traditions, which carry the deceased feet-first out the door. It’s seen as a negative omen and impacts the room’s energy flow, disturbing sleep.

This setup can instill unconscious discomfort, inhibit relaxation, and negatively affect waking mood and productivity.

To improve energy flow in your bedroom, place the bed in the room’s “commanding position.” You should see the door from your bed, but not directly aligned. Ideally, your bed should have a solid wall behind it.

Avoid positioning it under a window or beam. Don’t position your bed near the bathroom or kitchen door. Keep sharp or heavy objects away from above your bed as they generate negative pressure.

Feng Shui encourages a neat room, avoidance of clutter under the bed, and preference for rounded furniture shapes. Adopt softer colors over loud ones for harmony.
